Short Story Showcase

Writing WA is proud to present the Short Story Showcase! The Showcase will feature dozens of local authors speaking to different themes between October 2024 and October 2025 as part of Changing the Conversation: Stories in All Spaces, an innvoative new project funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

CEO Will Yeoman is thrilled to have state government support to bring this project to life. ‘This initiative perfectly aligns with Writing WA’s long-term vision to see the incredible work of our writers, poets and illustrators more fully integrated into a larger cross-disciplinary conversation where collaboration is key.’

The first activation of the Short Story Showcase was Stories with Pride. Eight WA LGBTQIA+ authors were selected through an open call to the public, and their brilliant creative pieces were exhibited at the Raine Square Short Story Dispenser and State Library of WA throughout November 2024 as part of PrideFEST celebrations across the state.

Going forward, the Short Story Showcase will feature original and republished works by talented WA authors that speak to different themes, including International Women’s Day, Autism Understanding Month, NAIDOC Week, and Love to Read Local Month.

The Short Story Showcase represents one aspect of Changing the Conversation: Stories in all Spaces, a 2024-25 cross-disciplinary project kindly funded by the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and in partnership with Raine Square. The project is designed to build new bridges between writing and other creative fields, offering a series of immersive, often experimental experiences designed to reshape how literature is perceived across the community.
