Special Projects

Writing WA has been thrilled to see the Love to Read Local campaign grow in popularity each year since its inception in 2019, and in 2025, it has been extended from one week to one full month!

This enthusiasm and core spirit of showcasing our wonderful state of Western Australian literary talent has spurred us on to create additional initiatives at other times of the year, thanks to support from our partners and sponsors.

Our current Love to Read Local lineup of special projects includes:

The above activities, with the exception of the Children’s Writer-in-Residence placement, are part of Changing the Conversation: Stories in all Spaces, a 2024-25 cross-disciplinary project kindly funded by the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The project is designed to build new bridges between writing and other creative fields, offering a series of immersive, often experimental experiences designed to reshape how literature is perceived across the community.

* This brand new Children’s Writer-in-Residence placement is brought to you in 2025 in partnership with the KSP Writers’ Centre and is enabled by Writing WA’s Love to Read Local Month campaign with support from the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund.
