The Walls Have Stories

Writing WA is proud to announce its involvement with the 2025 Australian Heritage Festival!

Join us on Sunday 4 May 2025 for ‘The Walls Have Stories’, a free heritage trail in the Perth CBD featuring live performances from four local writers and poets as part of our 2024-25 project Changing the Conversation: Stories in All Spaces. This project is designed to build new bridges between writing and other creative fields, offering a series of immersive, often experimental experiences designed to reshape how literature is perceived across the community.

  • The event will commence at 10am on Sunday, 4 May 2025.
  • The event is free to attend but registration is essential – bookings will open soon.

Would you like to be featured as a performer in this event? Read below for details!

Writing WA is now seeking submissions from local writers and poets to perform original works for this event.

The four successful selected authors will bring to life the often-overlooked narratives embedded in the walls of Perth’s CBD, inviting members of the public to see the city’s heritage in a new light. For this unique event, we’d like to discover hidden tales and surprising connections between words and place.

Please send us your creative fiction, non-fiction or memoir (max 500 words), or poetry (max 50 lines) that uncover the history of a heritage building or landmark within 1 km of the WA Museum Boola Bardip in the Perth Cultural Centre. If you’re an author who can bring your words to life in performance, this opportunity is for you!

Each selected author will be paid $150 in total for their work and performance.

Deadline to submit: 12 pm AWST, Monday 7 April 2025.

Send us your entry via the portal here.
